A space to rest and find peace. A garden open to the sea and to people.
The Maite Forner Gardens are a space designed for resting, getting some fresh air and finding a moment of calm within the hospital environment. Located on the third floor of the new building, they allow visitors to enjoy natural light, the sea and Mediterranean vegetation, in a serene atmosphere that is accessible to everyone.
This garden is named after the woman who served as Director of Nursing at the Hospital de Mar for over twenty years. Committed to innovation and the humanisation of care, she argued that caring also means designing spaces that help to provide better care. The gardens pay tribute to this approach to healthcare: with respect for people, for nature and for the common good.
A space dedicated to health and environmental sustainability
The Maite Forner Gardens form part of the new building’s green roof and help to make it more efficient and sustainable. Native Mediterranean species – such as lavender, sage, tamarix and olive trees – have been planted, all of which are adapted to wind, salt and water scarcity. These plants create a cool microclimate and reduce the carbon footprint, improving the environmental comfort of the building as a whole. Designed as part of the hospital’s therapeutic environment, they offer an open space where nature supports the recovery process of patients and their families.
It is a smoke-free and alcohol-free area, where eating is not permitted and no waste of any kind may be left behind; for this reason, there are no litter bins. It is not a play area, nor are pets allowed; the garden is designed for rest and tranquility, not for physical activity.
Opening hours:
-Winter: from 9 a.m. 6pm (from November 1 to April 30)
-Summer: from 9 a.m. 8pm (from May 1 to October 31)
The Maite Forner Gardens are a living part of our hospital. They represent an approach to healthcare in which nature, respect and tranquility are also part of the healing process.
