The Catalan Patí
Deeply rooted on the beaches of Barcelona and Badalona since the late 19th century, it has evolved to become one of the most distinctive vessels in our maritime culture. With neither rudder nor centreboard, sailing involves constantly reading the wind and the waves and steering the boat using one’s own body. It is a direct, simple and demanding way of sailing that we wish to continue passing on to future generations.
Llagut Catalan
Four years ago, we launched the Somorrostro, the first Llagut Català, with the aim of re-establishing rowing as an essential part of sport in Barcelona and reviving a boat closely linked to our seafaring tradition. In the Llagut, the sea is experienced as a community: eight rowers must find the same rhythm, coordinate every stroke and move forward as a single team.
Today, Patí and Llagut coexist at the Club with a shared vision: that traditions should not be preserved merely by remembering them, but by bringing them to life. May they continue to sail, may they be passed on, and may more and more people in Barcelona feel that the sea is also part of their city.
