“Amb Cara i Ulls ” campaign has been on the streets to position Barcelona as a city of quality commerce, restaurants and markets. This campaign, which was launched in 2022, seeks to place the Catalan capital as a city with a unique model of commerce that takes into account many values such as quality, professionalism, proximity and sustainability. The main objectives are to position Barcelona as a city of quality local commerce thanks to the professionalism of its merchants and restaurateurs; to improve awareness of the existence of quality local commerce, both for the product and the service offered, among citizens; and to pay tribute to merchants for their professionalism, which is a key element for Barcelona to be a benchmark in quality local commerce. The protagonists of this new campaign were awarded in the 24th edition of the Commerce Awards: Carns Cinta, from the Mercado de la Concepción, which received the Mercats de Barcelona award. Remei Márquez, from the Marina Traders Association, who received the Albert González award for her contribution to the promotion, innovation and knowledge of the city’s trade. Panes Creativos, which was awarded the special prize as a reference in the bakery sector at a national and international level. Mamá Heladera, which received the award in the local trade category for its “roots in the neighbourhood” and for offering a “different” proposal for trying ice cream. This is how “the bomba” was born
Magí , his mother, Mrs. María, and his wife Palmira wanted to create their own tapa. In 1955, they began to experiment by making a kind of potato croquette that “was missing something.” He tried sauces until a sailor brought him chili (cayenne) powder from Mombassa (Kenya). It was stronger than any other “bug” known at that time.
They got it right and this unique, still nameless croquette took root in the parish. People came from all over the city to try it and see if they could stand the spiciness. One day, Mrs. Maria gave the croquette with sauce to a fifteen-year-old neighbor, Enriquet, who exclaimed, “María, this is the bomb.” And it stuck.
