It has once again been a privilege for Essència Barceloneta to have Dr. Güerri on board.
This time, he reminds us of what the damned pandemic was like. As a highly active protagonist, he tells us what it was like to experience this difficult time from the inside. Today, five years later, we are struck by the phrase with which he begins his letter: “COVID marked a before and after in our lives.” Coming from him, it’s clear that it’s not one of those clichés like “we will emerge stronger and better” or “we will learn the lesson” that some recited to us while they continued to do their business at the cost, even, of misfortune.
But in Güerri’s case, allow us to resort to another phrase from another elder, Julio: “life goes on as usual.” To complete it (he has personally given us permission) with ‘life goes on as usual… and, in many cases, worse’. Ukraine, Dana, AI, Trump, Palestine, Putin… to take 6 proper names by eye, without adjectives or wanting to get into patriotic examples -which abound- in case someone gets offended afterwards. Are we sure that ‘we have learned’? Are we sure that ‘we have become better’? It is sometimes hard to believe. And, personally, at this point we no longer have any use for that encouraging phrase of I don’t remember which great statesman who said ‘be careful, we’re not so bad’.
