98 editions of a history that is now part of the city’s fabric.
On 3 October, we will celebrate the 98th edition of the Barcelona Harbour Swim, a milestone that brings us closer to a very special occasion: the centenary of an event that is now part of the city’s identity and which has accompanied the evolution of Barcelona, the port and, of course, the Club Natación Atlètic – Barceloneta.
Over the course of almost a century, thousands of swimmers have crossed the waters of the Port of Barcelona, driven by the desire to overcome a personal challenge and share a day in which the sea and sport take centre stage.
What began as a popular swim has become one of Europe’s most traditional open-water events. Today, it combines the participatory spirit of its origins with top-level international competition and has established itself as an unmissable fixture on Barcelona’s sporting calendar.
For the CNAB, the Travesía is much more than just a competition. It is part of our history and our identity. It is a day that brings together members, athletes, volunteers, families and supporters. Each edition is a source of pride, because it reflects the values that have always defined us: effort, self-improvement, tradition and a commitment to sport.
9th City of Barcelona International Trophy
This year’s event will once again turn the Moll de Bosch i Alsina into the epicentre of open-water swimming. More than 500 athletes of all ages and abilities will share the stage with some of the best international specialists, who will compete in the 9th City of Barcelona International Trophy, a qualifying event for the European Aquatics Open Water Swimming Cup.
Among the participants in the swim will once again be a number of swimmers from the CNAB, who will compete on home turf with the pride of representing the Club at one of the most special events on our calendar.
Special Olympics event
But if there is one value that defines the evolution of the Travesía, it is its ability to continue growing without losing its essence. This year, we will once again be committed to an open and inclusive competition, with adapted events and the second edition of the Special Olympics event, reaffirming the CNAB’s commitment to sport that is accessible to everyone.
As every year, the Port Vell will provide a prime setting to follow the competition up close and enjoy a day that brings together sport, the city and the sea in a way that few others do.
The CNAB takes immense pride in continuing to promote a competition that has transcended the sporting sphere to become part of Barcelona’s heritage. An event that has evolved without losing its essence and which continues to bring together swimmers of all ages, abilities and backgrounds under a single goal: to enjoy the sea and share a passion for open water.
Because the Port of Barcelona Swim is not just a competition. It is part of the history of the Club Natación Atlètic-Barceloneta. It is a legacy we share with the city and one that will soon celebrate its centenary.
