Local business fair

The Local Business Fair was held on May 8, 9, and 10 at Plaza de las Glorias, attracting more than 40,000 visitors. This year’s event was particularly special, as it took place in conjunction with Barcelona’s designation as the European Capital of Local Commerce.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Commerce, Restaurants, and Food, in collaboration with the Municipal Institute of Markets of Barcelona (IMMB), involves the participation of merchants, retailers, associations, and organizations representing the city’s local commerce sector.

The fair’s main objective is to promote and highlight the role of local commerce, which includes the commercial fabric of the neighborhoods, Barcelona’s markets, and the city’s gastronomy—all characteristic elements of the Mediterranean as a driving force behind urban development.

The Local Commerce Fair offers visitors a wide-ranging program of activities. These take place both in the auditorium—with cooking demonstrations, talks, presentations, and workshops—and outdoors, with activities designed for families, children, and everyone in general, including stalls run by local businesses, a barbecue area, a picnic zone, and food stands operated by the city’s restaurateurs. In addition, the stage hosted live musical performances.
