30 years of the Narcís Monturiol Institute

The Narcís Monturiol institute is celebrating its 30th birthday. The Centre began its educational services in the academic year 1994-95, with the then called Professional Modules of level 2 and 3 of the Chemistry family, specifically the MP2 Chemical Operator, the MP3 Laboratory Technician Assistant and the MP3 Environment. Since then, almost 800 students have graduated from Intermediate Level Training Cycles and more than 2600 from Higher Level Training Cycles. A total of almost 3400 students who have started their professional path in our house and we have had the pleasure of accompanying them.

Welcome at the Institute of Chemistry and Biotechnology of Barcelona

This year is also a time for educational transformation and for taking a step forward. We will leave behind our name to become the Institute of Chemistry and Biotechnology of Barcelona, a benchmark institute in its educational sectors. We will continue with the educational excellence that we have been exercising during these 30 years and we are happy to continue guiding our students towards professional success.

The school is located in the Barceloneta district and has occupied, since 1982, a building that was originally part of the old metallurgical and civil construction company known as ‘Maquinista Terrestre y Marítima’.

During the 93-94 academic year, the centre was remodelled to offer professional training in the field of chemistry, with the incorporation of specialised teaching staff from the Lluïsa Cura School. Four new laboratories were built and inaugurated in 1995 by Mayor Pascual Maragall. Since then, teaching has been expanded and the centre now offers training in areas such as Chemistry, Health and Human Care, as well as Energy and Sustainability.

These courses have attracted students not only from Barcelona and its metropolitan region, but also from various autonomous communities and other countries.

We celebrate these 30 years of quality public education and we are fervently and emotionally grateful to all the teaching professionals, the administration staff, the neighbourhood organisations and the companies collaborating with the centre that have participated and contributed to the training of our students to forge a successful professional future for themselves. Thank you!
