Exhibition “Recipes from the past to save the future”
From September 10 to October 31
The project has revived traditional recipes and techniques from the seafood cuisine of La Barceloneta, highlighting the role of women as guardians of gastronomic memory from the 18th century to the present day. This approach promotes the use of discarded fish or species of low economic value, alongside natural preservation methods to prevent food waste, linking slow cooking, sustainability and resilience in times of scarcity.
The collected recipes are presented in an exhibition featuring historical display panels and video testimonies, as well as in a free recipe book available at the Barceloneta market.
Exhibition “La Barceloneta, 1960. Photographs by Xavier Agramont”
From November 2026 to February 2027
This exhibition invites us to step back in time to the Barceloneta of 1960 through the lens of Xavier Agramont y Cruanyes (Barcelona, 1933), a photographer little known to the general public but the creator of an extensive and valuable documentary archive. With a sensitive and intimate eye, Agramont captured everyday life on Barcelona’s seafront during a period of profound social change.
The large-format photographs on display transport us to a Barceloneta characterised by work in the port and at sea, by streets teeming with life, local shops and the ‘merenderos’ (beachside cafés) right on the shore, serving as places for people to come together. In the midst of Franco’s dictatorship, whilst the regime projected an image of economic prosperity, the city lived under strict political and social control. The exhibition reveals the reality of a working-class neighbourhood, with modest homes and restricted freedoms, where community cohesion and shared life on the streets became a form of everyday resistance.
Taken on a Saturday in 1960, the photographs of the neighbourhood—preserved in the archives of the Casa de la Barceloneta 1761—reveal Xavier Agramont’s ability to capture gestures, glances and spontaneous scenes of great human depth. The images of the port, drawn from the archives of the Barcelona Maritime Museum, complement this visual journey through the Barceloneta.Taken together, these photographs constitute an exceptional record to the collective memory of the neighborhood and popular Barcelona of the 20th century.
