On 27 November in the Oval Room of the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC), The Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, presided over the 25th edition of the Barcelona Commerce Award, which recognises the most outstanding commercial initiatives of the year in different categories.
The event was also attended by the Councillor for Commerce, Catering and Markets, Raquel Gil, and nearly 400 traders and representatives of the city’s commercial associations and those of the municipal markets. These awards were born in 1998 with the name of Barcelona, the best shop in the world to reward the efforts of the people who work behind the tile, those responsible for filling the streets of Barcelona with innovative, sustainable and high quality commerce.
Award winners by category:
Best Business Model Award: Unión Suiza (Sarriá- Sant Gervasi), luxury jewellery and watchmaking.
Proximity Commerce Award: Idoni-Bon Cor (Eixample), a cooperative shop selling ecological, local and small-producer products.
Albert González Award for the promotion and knowledge of the city’s commerce: Nuria Paricio, a leading figure in commerce and coexistence in Barcelona.
Award for the emblematic shop: Sombrerería Obach (Ciutat Vella), founded in 1924, specialising in hats, caps and accessories.
Special mention to Herboristería del Rey (Ciutat Vella). With more than 200 years of history, it is a jewel of Barcelona’s commercial heritage.
Barcelona Markets Award – Jordi Maymó
– Best individual initiative: Cardiel Sabaters, a stall in the Encants de Sant Antoni with more than 60 years of history. Specialising in footwear.
– Best collective initiative: Associació de Comerciants del Mercat de Lesseps, an example of revitalisation of neighbourhood commerce.
