The train that separated us from Barcelona

“In Barceloneta, the train always gives us a hard time .”

There was a time, between the 1950s and 1980s, when the freight train to the port crossed through Barceloneta. It was endless and almost never finished. The most daring pedestrians would get on and off while the train was moving, while the more cautious ones would wait and wait 15 minutes or more to get through. For them, it was the ideal excuse to be late to work or school.

The cars that were caught in the train’s path would be heard honking their horns for a long time. It was a way to release the adrenaline that had built up while waiting.
