Shôko’s Commitment to the Barceloneta Neighborhood
Shôko Barcelona has celebrated its 20th anniversary on the Barceloneta waterfront—the very neighborhood that saw it born and grow as a restaurant and nightclub, and which has become an essential part of its identity. From the very beginning, the establishment has been committed to ensuring that its activities also contribute positively to the community where it operates and coexists. This vision has taken shape through social initiatives that today position Shôko as a leader in sustainability and responsibility within the leisure and restaurant sector.
Commitment to the Community
The venue is the first leisure establishment in Spain to obtain the Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle certification, an international recognition awarded by the Responsible Tourism Institute (RTI). This distinction attests commitment to combating climate change, the responsible management of resources, and the social and economic sustainability of its operations.
Charity Toy Drive
Shôko actively participates in the Charity Toy Drive organized by the Festival Committee of the Barceloneta Neighborhood Association.
# RosesQueCuren de Sant Jordi
An initiative promoted by the Friends of the Hospital de Mar Foundation. This campaign, aimed specifically at businesses and institutions, transforms the symbolic gesture of giving a rose into direct support for biomedical research. Now in its third year, all funds raised have been allocated entirely to research on brain diseases being conducted at the Hospital de Mar Research Institute.
Beach Cleanup Day
For the past three years, Shôko has organized a cleanup day at Somorrostro Beach, in collaboration with the Catalan NGO PlasticFREEwave and with the support of the Barceloneta Neighborhood Association. During the last event, volunteers collected more than 3,552 pieces of trash, including cigarette butts, cans, bottles, and disposable plastics.
A firm commitment to local businesses
At Shôko, we source a large portion of our products from neighborhood stores, thereby strengthening the local economy. The message is clear: “Those who work in the neighborhood must do their part to take care of it.”
Through all these actions, Shôko Barcelona reaffirms its commitment to continuing to collaborate with the Barceloneta neighborhood.
