Nil de Paz, a photographer and visual creator from Badalona, works somewhere between photographic documentary and cinematographic fiction. In his project on the Maireta IV, a trawler from Barceloneta, he explores a day’s fishing under the premise of discovering where the fish that reaches the table comes from and what it means to preserve this artisanal work in a context of accelerated industrialisation present in today’s Barceloneta.
The interest of the project was born to document a reality that is geographically close, but unknown to the general public. We are publishing this report by Nil at a time when the collective is going through severe difficulties with the imposition of measures and cuts in working hours and catches that will make a profession with centuries of tradition unviable in the Mediterranean. Especially in a fishing district like ours, these measures imposed by the European Administration (EEC) will be very, very bad.
