More activities, more space, more Christmas than ever at the Port of Barcelona

From December 5 to January 7, Barcelona's Port Vell will host the fifth edition of "Nadal al Port" (Christmas at the Port) which, this year, will feature more activities and spaces than ever.

This new edition will extend beyond the Bosch i Alsina dock (Moll de la Fusta) and both the lighting and the activities will reach the Barceloneta, Depósito and Barcelona docks and Pau Vila square with the aim of contributing to the social and economic dynamism of the neighbourhoods closest to the Port during the Christmas season.

Inauguration

The lights switch-on ceremony, to be held on December 5 at 6.30 p.m. at the Moll de la Fusta, will feature a performance by the SX3 (Super3) musical group BETA, who will also present the free multi-user virtual reality experience, "Il-lusions", which SX3 has prepared for the Moll de la Fusta Christmas Fair. The giants, "grallers" and bestiary of Barceloneta and the Big Band of the Escola de Músics will complete the opening performances.

News

During the lighting of the lights, the new light and music show of the Tower of Jaume I will be premiered every night at 19.00 hours, which can be enjoyed from the Moll de la Fusta, adding to the usual Christmas illumination by land, sea and air of this space. On the land side, this year will also see the premiere of a new lighting on the docks of the Depósito (Palau de Mar) and Barceloneta (Joan de Borbó promenade) and in the Plaza de Pau Vila.

Fun for all ages

After the success of the previous edition, the "Nadal al Port" will once again feature a 400 m2 sustainable and ecological ice rink, while the youngest members of the family will be able to enjoy attractions such as the old carousel, the little train and the pirate ship, as well as the traditional 65-meter-high wheel.

Gastronomic market

The Moll del Depósito, next to the Museum of the History of Catalonia, will be another place to enjoy Christmas by the sea with a new market of local gastronomic products called “Sabors de Nadal”, which will open in mid-December.

Maritime heritage, port culture

On the maritime side, docked at the Moll de la Fusta, the historic ships of the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, the Pailebote Santa Eulalia and the Faro Barcelona, will be decorated for the occasion and can be visited.

“Nadal al Port” will have different spaces for the dissemination of port and maritime culture, where activities promoted by the Port of Barcelona in collaboration with the Port Community will take place. There will be workshops and activities for children where they can learn to be stevedores moving containers of goods, discover the trades of the Port, get started in the world of rowing or enjoy the sea playing.

Music at the market

Likewise, the Christmas market will once again be a meeting point for the organizations and music schools of the neighboring neighbourhoods in the Port of Barcelona, which will fill the stage with different performances. More than 500 people will perform on the main stage during the Christmas Fair. More than 60 entities, associations and companies linked to the Port of Barcelona will be in charge of the informative and entertainment initiatives.

The most solidary Christmas

“Nadal al Port”; will also be the setting for the Ballada Solidària, organized by the Sports Dance Section of the Port of Barcelona, to raise funds for La Marató de TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio, dedicated this year to sexual and reproductive health. The Port of Barcelona has also collaborated with the Marató with the cession of some of its most emblematic spaces for this edition.

Likewise, the Solidarity Container, the campaign that the Port Community of Barcelona organizes every year at Christmas time to collect food for people in need, will be present at Christmas in the Port. The Port will bring this solidarity campaign, which is being held for the eighteenth consecutive year, to the citizens to collect financial contributions that will be transformed into food for the Banc dels Aliments through the QRs that can be scanned at the meeting.
