IFCO establishes its global digital hub at Tech Barcelona’s Pier01

IFCO, a world leader in reusable packaging solutions for fresh food, has opened a global digital hub at Tech Barcelona’s Pier01. This new hub in Barcelona will strengthen IFCO’s ability to provide real-time tracking and data-driven analytics to its customers around the world, promoting transparency, efficiency and sustainability throughout the supply chain.

IFCO also joins as a Global Partner of the association, positioning itself at the epicentre of Barcelona’s technological and digital ecosystem.

Specifically, the hub starts its operations with a team of 25 employees and is expected to grow to 50 employees next year. This team of technology profiles will be responsible for integrating advanced tools, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) or the Internet of Things (IoT), into its reusable transport containers (RPCs) to provide location and status updates, which will enable customers to optimise container usage, reduce environmental impact and streamline logistics.

‘By partnering with Tech Barcelona we are leveraging one of Europe’s leading technology innovation hubs, enabling us to advance our mission of sustainable solutions globally,’ says Mike Pooley, CEO of IFCO.

‘Our new digital hub marks a fundamental step forward in our digital journey, strengthening our technological capabilities to deliver significant improvements in our services,’ says Dr. Sebastian Grams, CDO of IFCO.

For Miquel Martí, CEO of Tech Barcelona, ‘the incorporation of IFCO as a Global Partner of the association and the establishment of its new Pier01 hub will boost Barcelona’s growth as a benchmark in technology applied to the circular economy’.
