This academic year 2024-2025, the Barcelona Nautical Institute (INB) celebrates its tenth anniversary, a milestone that marks a decade of commitment to the training of maritime professionals. Founded in 2015-2016, thanks to the joint collaboration of the Barcelona Education Consortium and the Port of Barcelona, the INB has become an emerging model in the field of professional nautical training, positioning itself as a benchmark in the training of specialised technicians in nautical sports and recreational boating.
Growth and evolution
Since its beginnings, INB has experienced remarkable growth. Strategically located in the Port of Barcelona, it has received more than 3,000 students. Over the years, the centre has expanded its training offer to meet the growing needs of the nautical sector, becoming a point of reference not only in Barcelona, but also nationwide.
It is the only centre in Barcelona to offer the Intermediate Level in Boat Maintenance, and the only one in Catalonia to offer the Advanced Level in Electro-technical and Automated Systems for Sport Boats. It also offers training and integration programmes (PFI) and a variety of courses in the field of sport, including disciplines such as sailing, canoeing, sport diving and lifeguarding.
Partnerships and community impact
Thanks to its location in the Barceloneta neighbourhood, the institute has established partnerships with more than 30 neighbourhood organisations and 200 companies in the sector, guaranteeing practical training aligned with market demands. These collaborations include internships in renowned companies and international placements, offering students a complete and quality educational experience.
Job opportunities and job placement
Since the creation of the Job Bank in 2017, INB has doubled the number of job offers, reflecting the confidence of the sector in the preparation of its students. With more than 250 companies registered and a high rate of job placement (85%), INB demonstrates its ability to train highly qualified professionals who are quickly incorporated into the labour market.
Future and consolidation
Looking to the future, the Barcelona Institute of Nautical Science is seeking to consolidate its position as a centre of excellence in the field of the Blue Economy. With ambitious projects such as the creation of a new shipyard, its integration into the new Marina Vela Nautical Training Centre and forming part of the Blue Tech Port ecosystem promoted by the Port of Barcelona, the INB is preparing to lead national nautical training.
On this tenth anniversary, INB not only celebrates its achievements, but also reaffirms its commitment to training excellence, preparing for a new decade of innovation and growth. With the ISO 9001:2015 quality standard, the INB remains steadfast in its aim to be a global benchmark in nautical training.
