The tapas bars our grandparents used to go to

In Barceloneta we can still find establishments where not much time has passed. Tapas bars, heirs to the taverns and pudas* that originated in the neighbourhood.

Preserved by their current owners, some of them are still going strong, some with decades or more than 50 years, respecting in many cases their original name and their dedication to the world of tapas. This is one of the many charms of these bars, which have seen several generations of customers pass through them

*”Pudas” were establishments where the neighbours played cards, drank, ate and had fun. The first inns were born alongside with the neighbourhood in the 18th century. It was in a meeting place, a seafaring, port and cosmopolitan area like Barceloneta, where this type of taverns proliferated. Over time, they evolved as tapas bars, or in the so-called “casas de comidas” (food houses) or “chiringuitos” (snack bars) on the beach.tapes, o a les anomenades cases de menjars o als xiringuitos (merenderos) de la platja.

5. CANGANASSA: since 1945, one of the oldest in the neighbourhood and also with an echo of choirs. One of the first with a terrace where all the families used to stop for “tapas” during the ceremonies at the Church of San Miquel!
