OPEN DOORS TO THE PORT OF BARCELONA

Some 3,000 visitors have been able to  discover the Port with guided tours and 5,072 people have run the RAC1 Race.

The Port of Barcelona has closed  the second edition of the Open Doors Days, held on the weekend of May 17 and 18, with a great success of participation.

Throughout the two days, more than 15,000 people have enjoyed a wide range of activities to learn about the port infrastructure, including guided tours by land and sea, family experiences, cultural and sporting events, as well as exceptional access to the container terminals APM Terminals Barcelona and Hutchison Ports BEST.

Guided tours at the heart of the Port

Some 3,000 people have discovered the Port through the various types of guided tours: maritime, dramatized and land tours. The long land tours have allowed access for the first time to the container terminals APM Terminals Barcelona and Hutchison Ports BEST. This experience, unprecedented until now, has offered a privileged look at port operations and has helped to highlight the strategic importance of the Port of Barcelona in the economic and logistical field. The maritime tours, on board “Las Golondrinas”, and the dramatized tours were praised by the participants, as well as the exhibition of the Port Police and Barcelona Fire Department vehicles.

The RAC1 Race

In the sports field, the tenth edition of the Cursa de RAC1 brought together 5,072 people who ran through the most emblematic areas of the Port Vell in a circuit of 6 kilometers. David Campo and Paula Nueno were the overall winners of an event that combined sport, live radio and festive atmosphere, coinciding with the 25th birthday of the station.

As expressed by its president, José Alberto Carbonell, “given the good reception of the first two editions, the Port of Barcelona has already started working on the next edition of the Open Doors. We want to make it an annual event”.

The Port Vell opens the Barcelona Nord dock to the public

On Friday, May 16, as a preamble to the conference, the “vora moll” of the Barcelona dock was inaugurated, a new promenade area of more than 13,500 m² open to the public that has already begun to be discovered as a new meeting point of the Port Vell and that over the weekend brought together music, food trucks, family workshops and resting areas.

The open part of the Barcelona pier comprises the space that runs from the former Balearia terminal to the nose, also open, at the eastern end. 600 meters of dock line that expand the spaces of Port Vell freely accessible to citizens and give access to the sea to the World Trade Center complex, multiplying its attractiveness and boosting its dynamism.

Parallel activities, such as free access to the Maritime and History museums, the RC Sailing University Regatta and the Rumba Beach Festival, have also been very well received. The area of the Spain dock has been full of life too, with activities such as the gastronomic brunch of the Time Out Market, the workshops and talks of the Mar d’Activitats space or the discounted access to the renovated Aquarium.

The president of the Port of Barcelona, José Alberto Carbonell, has valued very positively the public response: “Opening the Port to the public is not just a one-off action, but an ongoing commitment. This second edition consolidates the Port’s commitment to make itself understood, show its activity and strengthen the link with the city. The great reception we have had encourages us to move forward with initiatives such as the future Port Center, which will open in 2026, to continue explaining who we are and what we do.”

The initiative has had the support of leading companies in the Port Community, such as APM Terminales Barcelona, Hutchison Puertos BEST, MSC Cruises, and Balearia, which have made the event possible.
