Carbonell (Barcelona, 1964) has been the general manager of the institution for 15 years. Therefore, the new head of the institution is a great connoisseur of the Port of Barcelona from different facets. He began working for the Port Authority of Barcelona ( APB) in 1991. After holding various responsibilities in the organisation, he was appointed general manager by the board of directors held in January 2009.
During his time as director, he has been involved in the process of transformation and modernisation of the Port, in accordance with the successive strategic plans of the entity. More recently, he has been notably involved in the organisation of the America’s Cup in Barcelona. José Alberto Carbonell is a civil engineer from the University of Barcelona.
Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), Master in Business Administration and Management (MBA) from EADA Business School Barcelona and PADE by IESE Business School .
In 2022 he received the Medal of Professional Merit, awarded by the College of Engineers of Roads , Canals and Ports .
