Blue School League

Bringing sailing to primary school students

The Blue School League is now underway after the delivery of boats and exhibition regatta held last June in the waters of the BISC (Barcelona International Sailing Center), as part of a fun family day. Around 80 children aged between 8 and 12 from 18 sailing clubs along the Catalan coast had the opportunity to try out the 36 new boats.

The project, promoted by the Barcelona Capital Náutica Foundation and the Catalan Sailing Federation, was created with the aim of bringing the sport of sailing into the educational sphere and strengthening collaboration between yacht clubs and schools, promoting an accessible, educational sport that is deeply rooted in the region. The Barcelona Capital Náutica Foundation has collaborated with the Catalan Sailing Federation to provide the boats with the aim of guaranteeing the necessary equipment for their development.

The event last June was attended by various institutional and sporting authorities, such as the Secretary General of the Department of Sports of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Abel García; the Councilor for Sports of the Barcelona City Council and President of the Sports Area of the Barcelona Provincial Council, David Escudé; Conrad Felip, Coordinator of the Sports and Physical Activity Department of the Barcelona Provincial Council; Josep Maria Isern, President of the Catalan Sailing Federation; and Laureà Fanega, Director General of the Barcelona Capital Náutica Foundation.

A competition that runs throughout the school year

The Blue School League will officially kick off in the 2025-2026 school year and is aimed at students who already participate in the Esport Blau Escolar (Generalitat de Catalunya), Vive la Vela (Barcelona City Council), and Aventura Blava (Barcelona Provincial Council) programs. Throughout the school year, participants will take part in monthly training sessions and educational activities, with the aim of promoting sailing skills, environmental awareness, and teamwork.

The project involves the direct participation of 18 sailing clubs from across the region, which will take on a training and monitoring role. The participating clubs are GEN Roses, Club Náutico l’Escala, Club Náutico L’Estartit, Club Náutico Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Club Náutico Costa Brava, Club Vela Palamós, Club Vela Blanes, Club Náutico Arenys de Mar, Club Náutico El Balís, Club Náutico Vilassar de Mar, Vela Mataró, Club Náutico El Masnou, Centro de Vela del BISC, Centro Municipal de Vela de Barcelona, Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, Real Club Marítimo de Barcelona, Club Natación Barcelona, Vela Prat, and Club Náutico Salou.

With this initiative, the Barcelona Capital Náutica Foundation and the Catalan Sailing Federation are reinforcing their commitment to an inclusive, educational, and locally rooted model of sports practice, with the aim of consolidating a new generation of young sailors.
