The SURT Foundation opens in Barceloneta

The SURT Foundation opens a new space for women’s empowerment in Barceloneta

Barceloneta has welcomed the SURT Foundation, an organization that works to empower women and defend the rights of the most vulnerable groups. On March 7th , in the framework of International Women’s Day, its new space was inaugurated at 18 Doctor Aiguadé Street , an event attended by the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni .

The opening event began with an open day in the neighbourhood, where a workshop was offered to the residents of La Barceloneta and all interested women. This workshop served to work, through the body, the different discriminations and gender stereotypes that cross us as women and how these inequalities are reflected in everyday life.

The highlight of the day was Mayor Collboni’s speech, which highlighted the work of feminist organisations such as SURT. In a stimulating and vindicating message, he stressed the importance of fighting for women’s rights and equal opportunities, especially in the workplace. This commitment is in line with the municipal campaign of this 8M, ‘Let’s break the precariousness’, which denounces labour inequalities and the gender gap that women still suffer.

After the inauguration, a snack was offered to all attendees and the community was invited to participate in the projects that SURT will develop in Barceloneta. The space will be dedicated to inclusion programmes and employment guidance with a gender and community perspective. Its facilities include a digitalisation room and several activity rooms.

One of the projects that will be deployed from this new centre is ‘Obrint Portes’, aimed at promoting the economic autonomy of women through training, emotional support and community action.

With this space, Fundació SURT reinforces its commitment to social justice and gender equality, offering La Barceloneta a new resource for female empowerment and the construction of a more inclusive neighbourhood.
