This roadmap aims to reduce the carbon footprint and reinforce the commitment to increasingly sustainable practices in its activity, guaranteeing its social and environmental commitment, generating long-term value. In this regard, the marina has certified its environmental responsibility for waste and water quality management of the infrastructure and has implemented the EMAS system, developed by the European Commission to assess, report and reduce the environmental impact of the marina.

“We have always worked to ensure the best sustainable practices in our infrastructure, but now it is also essential to invest in key actions that pave the way for future, more sustainable innovations for Marina Port Vell,” says Ignacio Erroz, general manager of Marina Port Vell Barcelona.

The pillars of the marina’s sustainability strategy are based on being an environmentally responsible company, developing a social commitment to the environment, and committing to a solid governance model. All this, from three areas of influence, the Mediterranean, Barcelona and the team that makes up the marina.

In particular, Marina Port Vell is focused on promoting conservation and sustainability awareness actions. In addition, from the city’s point of view, the marina is committed to promoting sustainable tourism, betting on socioeconomic development and partnerships with the local community while promoting solutions for sustainable mobility. In this sense, the marina collaborates with the Barceloneta neighbourhood in various activities and works with key entities in its area of influence, being an integral part of Barcelona’s commitment to position itself as a sustainable city. It also organizes clean-ups of microplastics on the beach together with the crews of the boats that dock at the infrastructure.
