La Salle Barceloneta: Virtual reality for hospitalized children

Students of the advanced training cycle of 3D animation, video games and interactive environments of Le Salle Barceloneta, within the framework of the Training in Work Centres (popularly known as internships in the company), collaborate to develop a virtual reality application for hospitalized children, which helps reduce the anxiety caused by the toughest moments of medical treatments.

It’s an internship in the company “Nixi for Children” that combines educational learning with community service processes.

Egoitz Olivares is a student who in 2022 has collaborated in the solidarity and civic engagement project. “I have animated a non-binary character, called Nixi”, he details with enthusiasm. “An avatar who is capable of turning a cold space, like na operating theatre into a welcoming and friendly environment”, he adds. “Nixi accompanies and explains to the children what the space where they will be operated on looks like, and what machinery will be used, to get them not to be so nervous before the procedure”, he explains.

“This experience has allowed me to work in a company made up of a young, well-communicated and very pleasant team and to learn how to create the composition of natural positions of the human body in 3D. But, undoubtedly, the most gratifying thing has been to accompany the little ones in a moment of their vulnerability, through my passion: 3D”, he says excitedly.
