The Barceloneta Library has been hosting a Catalan conversation group that meets every Monday at 6:30 p.m. It is made up of four volunteers who, week after week, propose different topics to encourage conversation among people who want to practice and improve their Catalan in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. No prior registration is required, just a desire to speak!
This group follows the Charlamos Juntos learning model, promoted by the Coordinadora de Asociaciones por la Lengua Catalana (Coordinating Committee of Associations for the Catalan Language), which has dozens of similar groups throughout the country. In La Barceloneta, the sessions have been gaining participants, reaching almost twenty. This year, with an already established group of chatterboxes, we have organized, together with the Barceloneta Community Plan, the third edition of the Cafè en català (Coffee in Catalan) event, with the participation of several Catalan learning groups from the neighborhood.
The activity was held during the local festival, in front of the library, and brought together about forty people who shared snacks and experiences. During the meeting, we took the opportunity to present a small guide with all the organizations that work to promote Catalan in the neighborhood. Finally, if you want to learn Catalan or any other language, you will find a section in the library dedicated specifically to language learning.
