Barceloneta’s “Women for Women” initiative promotes intercultural coexistence

This September, SURT is launching the “Women for Women” project in the Barceloneta neighborhood, an initiative that focuses on training and empowering women from different cultural backgrounds to become community agents, with the mission of supporting migrant families and promoting intercultural coexistence in the neighborhood’s socio-educational spaces.

The “Women for Women” network will be closely linked to Barceloneta Diversa, working together to highlight diversity as a community value and create spaces for intercultural encounters, especially in areas related to family and childhood, where inequalities of access or invisible barriers often occur. To this end, it will also work in coordination with schools, open centers, libraries, community centers, and other community facilities.

“Women for Women” offers practical and transformative training for women who wish to become actively involved in community life as agents promoting interculturality. The training will enable them to become intercultural community agents, giving them the tools to accompany migrant families in the process of settling in and accessing neighborhood services, facilitating links between families and schools, social services, and health resources, and creating spaces of trust and listening among women from different cultures.

The training, which is free and has limited places, will combine theoretical and practical content. Participants will acquire communication skills, intercultural mediation, group facilitation, knowledge of public services and resources, and will also receive training in social rights, gender perspective, and anti-racism.

The project has a dual focus: to support families who arrive or live in a situation of social disconnection, while at the same time empowering the women who participate, recognizing their potential as community leaders and agents of change.
