America’s Cup 2024

Barcelona, once again a world sporting protagonist.

Barcelona will host the 37th America’s Cup in September and October 2024, making it the first venue in the world to host both an Olympic Games (held in 1992) and an America’s Cup.

The America’s Cup is, after the Summer Olympics and the World Cup, the most followed sporting event in the world. The so-called Formula 1 of the sea is a pure spectacle. A spectacle that combines emotion with technical innovation. The yachts of the AC75 class are monohulls of 75 feet (23 metres) in length with innovations such as the foils mounted under the hull, the new design in the rigging of the sail or, among others, the new hydraulic systems, and the absence of keel.

There will be no Defender Selection Series this year, as Team New Zealand has been chosen by the defending club, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, to compete.

These challengers will meet in the Challenger Selection Series for the Prada Cup, and the winner will compete for the America’s Cup against the defender, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, in the America’s Cup final match.

LOCATION OF FACILITIES AND TEAM BASES

After defining the areas in the port of Barcelona where the teams for the America’s Cup 2024 Sailing competition will be based, the five teams have confirmed their choice of bases. Most of the operations centres will be located in the Port Vell area, which will allow them to be closely observed by the general public.
