A library in the image of the neighborhood

Barcelona’s various libraries specialize in different subjects. For example, the Miquel Llongueras library, located next to Camp Nou, has more books on sports than any other; or the brand new Gabriel Garcia Márquez library in Sant Martí buys Latin American literature that is difficult for the rest of us to acquire. Ours, located in a neighborhood with a seafaring tradition, could specialize in the sea, marine biology or tourism. And yes, in the children’s room we have a space called El mar de cuentos (The Sea of Stories) and in the adult room a shelf dedicated to marine preservation. But if this neighborhood stands out for anything, it is for its Catalan, traditional and seafood cuisine. For this reason the Barceloneta library specializes in restaurants and catering.

Seafood cuisine

You will find a wide selection of books to cook and enjoy cooking: various recipe books, world cuisines, desserts, drinks, techniques and products. On the other hand, in this section, amateurs, gourmets and lovers of good food in general will be able to be seduced by the proposals of the great chefs. There is also a space dedicated to the professional sector, business and work, and one of the most active in the city, and especially in Barceloneta. Finally, gastronomy in literary fiction and cinema. This section is represented by a wide selection of novels and films where food and cuisine appear predominantly.

In total, the specialization consists of 2,200 documents divided into 19 themes identified by a pictogram. Of all these books we recommend a couple:

My gastronomic self by M.F.K. Fisher, written at the beginning of the 20th century the author explains the fact of food as a sentimental and cultural act that transcends the simple fact of eating. A little gem with a foreword by Maria Nicolau.

Ice cream: the secrets of the master ice cream maker of DelaCrem by Massimo Pignata, very appropriate for the approaching heat. Easy but very creative recipes to make the best ice creams.
