Nadal at Port

Bigger , saltier , more fun , more committed , more sustainable

Yet another year, from November 29 to January 6 , Port Vell hosts a new edition of Christmas at the Port. This sixth edition is the biggest so far with more than 20,000 m² dedicated to leisure, culture, social and environmental sustainability. With a program designed for all ages , this event consolidates the Port of Barcelona as a meeting point for the Christmas period where the sea, the city and the values of the territory merge.

A sea of light and colour

El Moll de la Fusta is dressed in different shades of blue with new lighting designed by Barcelona companies that evokes the sea. A bath of blue light will also be added to the Portal de la Pau building and more than 50 trees will light up different areas of the Port Vell. Also innovative is the now classic light and music show at the Jaume I Tower, which is lit up every evening like a big Christmas tree with a star on top from 7 to 8 pm.

A world of novelties

The fair incorporates two new attractions aimed at young audiences, a sled ride, the 40-metre flying machine called ‘The Limit’, and the ecological ice rink has been extended from 400 to 550 m².

These attractions are in addition to the traditional 65-metre Ferris wheel, the old carousel, the pirate ship and the little train. In addition, the FunBox, considered to be the largest inflatable in the world, has been installed in the Miquel Tarradell Plan. The Tinglados del moll Oriental is also home to the Tinglado Real, where the little ones can experience the magic of Christmas in a unique way, watching the arrival and preparation of the gifts that the Three Kings of Orient distribute throughout the city.

A Christmas committed to people and the territory

One of the fundamental values of Christmas at the Port is its social commitment, with the participation of more than 60 social, cultural and educational organisations offering workshops, activities and performances for all audiences. Is is also worth mentioning the various marquees with informative activities and free games and workshops with a social component focused on the youngest members of the public.

In addition to the two double marquees in the Port of Barcelona, where the Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica is present, there are more marquees of cultural and social entities and concessionaires involved in the social and maritime fabric of the area, such as: the Barcelona Nautical Faculty, the Institut de Nàutica and the Barcelona Institute of Logistics, the Anèl-lides Association, the Spanish Vintage and Classic Boats Association (AEBEC) and the Fishermen’s Guild, as well as the Barcelona Maritime Museum, the Catalan Sailing Federation, Sails for Alzheimer’s, CLIA and other organisations such as the Nautical Bookshop, with readings for children, and solidarity projects such as Blue Green and BonDiaMón or Africa Stop Malaria and the Barcelona International Rowing Center (BIRC).

A stage full of performances

More than 500 performances give visibility to local talent and the associative fabric of the territory, including: the Conservatori del Liceu, the School of Musicians and JPC, Xaflà, the Raval Music and Performing Arts Centre, the Sona Espacio Musical Music School, the Riborquestra, the Taller de Músics, the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Port’s Dance Sports Section.

Solidarity actions

The social dimension of the fair includes actions such as the Solidarity Container campaign which, once again, facilitates economic donations through QR codes to raise funds for the Food Bank.

Emblematic spaces in and around the Port have also been incorporated, such as the Maritime Museum of Barcelona and the Museum of the History of Catalonia, the Maremagnum, the Barcelona Aquarium, the World Trade Center and the W and Grand Marina hotels. All of them offer different proposals and activities to enjoy the Christmas spirit by the sea. In the case of the WTC, its Christmas programme includes the lighting of a natural tree in the square, concerts, family cinema sessions and theatre and LED light shows, offering visitors a warm and festive atmosphere.

A responsible and environmentally friendly Nadal

Environmental sustainability is another of the pillars of this edition. The lighting of the Nafal al Port uses LED technology and is powered by an innovative large-format battery system that adjusts energy consumption to the needs in real time, minimising emissions and noise. This system allows visitors to enjoy a more environmentally friendly Nadal, without sacrificing visual spectacularity.

The circular economy is present in every corner of the fair: tables, benches and decorative elements built with recycled materials, such as recovered wood and structures from the old IMAX cinema, transformed to have a second life.

All of this is complemented by initiatives such as that of the Fishermen’s Guild, which promotes responsible consumption with tapas made with fish from the sea, highlighting local species and sustainable fishing.
