On November 27th, the Port of Barcelona celebrated the 10th anniversary of Positive Impact, its annual report that tracks and promotes environmental, social, and governance progress across the port community. During the event, MB92 Barcelona was recognised in the medium- sized company category for its outstanding contribution to environmental sustainability.
The award highlights MB92 Barcelona’s Plastic Recycling Plant, a pioneering initiative developed in partnership with Pinmar. This facility, which employs individuals at risk of social exclusion, is capable of recycling more than 100 tonnes of plastic annually. The recycled material comes from MB92 Group activities such as paint tenting and yacht protection, as well as contributions from across the Port community.
Through a comprehensive treatment process, the plant transforms and cleans waste plastic into flakes that can be repurposed for construction projects and community initiatives. One standout example is Carbon Blue, which turns recycled plastic into furniture. Barceloneta residents have already seen the benefits, with benches made from this material installed in the changing rooms at the Barceloneta Football Club.
Collecting the award on behalf of MB92 Barcelona was Marc Hervás, Sustainability Manager, who has led the project in collaboration with Pinmar and the Port Authorities. Looking ahead, 2026 will mark the plant’s first full year of operation, a milestone that will test its full capacity and further strengthen its role in building a sustainable future for the port and its surrounding communities.
