This year, Evolution Yacht Agents is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability in the nautical industry with the launch of a new project: ECOlution. From Barceloneta, one of Barcelona’s neighborhoods with the longest seafaring tradition and a key hub for the city’s nautical activity, this initiative was born with a clear goal: to reduce the environmental impact generated by both the company’s operations and those of its clients, by promoting a series of actions and campaigns throughout the year.
The Mediterranean Sea is the main setting for our activity, and protecting it is part of our responsibility. The Evolution team wants to actively contribute to the preservation of the marine and coastal environment through concrete projects involving crews, customers, and partners.
Sustainable actions from Barceloneta
One of the pillars of ECOlution will be the development of initiatives focused on caring for the Barceloneta area, with campaigns aimed at reducing the environmental impact of nautical activities. These actions will range from raising awareness about best practices on board to collaborating with local marine conservation projects.
In line with this commitment, Evolution has also organized beach cleanup initiatives in the past in collaboration with yacht crews. These events not only helped remove waste from the coastline but also raised awareness and encouraged the boating community to get directly involved in protecting the marine environment.
Within this program, they will promote the 5Rs philosophy: reduce, reuse, recycle, repair, and recover . The initiative will be extended to both superyacht crews and our clients and teams, encouraging them to incorporate more responsible habits during their experiences in port and at sea. Throughout the year, short interviews and testimonials from crew members and users will be shared, showcasing real-world examples of how to reduce the environmental footprint on board and contribute to the preservation of the seabed.
Protection of marine ecosystems
Another key focus of ECOlution will be the conservation of Posidonia , a marine plant essential to the biodiversity of the Mediterranean. ECOlution will launch awareness-raising initiatives aimed at captains and their crews to explain the importance of these underwater meadows and promote responsible anchoring practices, thereby preventing damage to these highly fragile ecosystems.
The initiative will also extend to sustainable fishing projects , as future collaborators of the Sepia Project , a marine conservation initiative that works to recover cuttlefish populations on the Costa Brava by installing natural structures that favor their reproduction.
Furthermore, ECOlution also represents a step forward in Evolution’s commitment to more sustainable practices, promoting the reduction of plastics and opting for more environmentally friendly packaging solutions in products and services linked to the onboard experience.
