A library in the image of the neighborhood

One of the main goals of the public library is to promote reading and provide free access to information, thus contributing to formal and informal education for all ages. To achieve this, we collaborate with several neighborhood organizations, especially the Institut Joan Salvat-Papasseït, with whom we maintain a close relationship throughout the school year.

Library and Institute: an ongoing collaboration

Between September and October, we organize guided tours so that students can learn about our services and use us as an information resource. New this academic year, we have created the Youth Space, an area designed for reading or group work, which has a large section of young adult novels, comics, magazines, and other materials.

We also promote activities to encourage reading, such as those we do for Sant Jordi or talks with authors. We often lend sets of books for use in class, such as Crónicas de l’Ostia. Barceloneta 1949-1992 (2013), by Vicens Forner, a work that has been part of the Institute’s educational project for years.

Another noteworthy proposal is Salvat-Papasseit: el esplendor ante el abismo (2024) by illustrator Agustín Comotto, a graphic chronicle that brings students closer to the poet and early 20th-century Barcelona in an entertaining and visual way.

We hope to continue offering activities and readings that will accompany our students for many years to come.
