The educational program “22 Days on a 22-footer, a solo adventure in the Atlantic”, promoted by the Barcelona Capital Nàutica Foundation and the Barcelona Maritime Museum, is now open for registration ahead of its 3rd edition .
This initiative aims to continue bringing maritime culture and the spirit of transoceanic sailing to primary and secondary school classrooms throughout Catalonia, through the real-time monitoring of the Mini Transat race.
This educational proposal, which has already seen the participation of more than 60 schools and 4,000 students in previous editions, is based on a transversal learning situation linked to the SDG 2030 and with a STEAM approach, with the aim of awakening interest in the sea, science, sport and sustainability.
This is not just any old race. It is a competition known as ‘the Himalayas of the sea’: one person, alone, unassisted, aboard a tiny wind-powered boat, has to cross the Atlantic, from Brittany to the Caribbean. How does he sleep, how does he rest, how does he face the immensity of the ocean from a boat the size of a car? In the educational programme ‘22 days in 22 feet, a solo adventure in the Atlantic’, the children follow the adventure of a sailor live.
Program information
– Challenges: the curricular content is worked with 9 challenges, grouped into 3 thematic axes: planet sea, human being and navigation;
-Globalised work: the follow-up of the Mini Transat 2025 provides the framework for meaningful, motivating and contextualised learning to help understand the sea and maritime culture in a global way.
-Values: personal values and skills such as resilience, problem solving, decision making and teamwork are fostered, connecting them to the real world and promoting a global and sustainable understanding of the marine environment.
